Senior Backend Engineer / Tech Lead

Overview

We’re expanding the R&D team for a Canadian product company in Embedded Vision & Edge AI (clients: Bosch, Philips, etc.). Looking for a hands-on Backend Cloud Engineer (tech leadership, architecture, coding).

Main Responsibilities

– Lead and mentor a team of backend engineers, providing technical guidance, code reviews, and professional development

– Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs for real-time and high-performance applications

– Work with code and architecture 80% of the time and with the team 20%

– Collaborate with product managers, QA, and DevOps teams to define system architecture and project priorities

– Ensure backend systems meet performance, security, and reliability standards

– Drive adoption of best practices in development, testing, and CI/CD processes

– Manage backend infrastructure including SQL and NoSQL databases, and containerized microservices

– Investigate and resolve production issues, ensuring system availability and stability

– Stay informed on emerging technologies and recommend improvements to existing systems

Mandatory Requirements

– Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field

– At least 3 years of hands-on experience as a backend developer

– At least 2 years of proven experience as a team lead, with demonstrated ability to manage and grow a development team

– Strong experience with both relational and non-relational databases

– Proficiency in backend development using modern languages and frameworks (e.g., Node.js, Python, Java, Go, .NET Core)

– Experience with containerization (Docker, Kubernetes) and microservices architecture

– Familiarity with video streaming protocols such as WebRTC and RTSP – an advantage

– Knowledge of service mesh technologies like Istio – preferred

– Experience working with real-time or distributed systems – a plus

– Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills

– Fluent English, both written and verbal
